Carpenter

Carpenters is an American pop music duo based in the 1970s. Karen Carpenter and Richard Carpenter were members, while Karen was in charge of vocals and drums and Richard was in charge of piano. The Carpenter brothers were born in New Haven, Connecticut and moved to Downey, California in 1963. Richard began playing the piano at an early age, leading to a major at Long Beach State University in California, where Karen studied drums. He began performing as the first duo in 1965 and worked as a jazz-focused Richard Carpenter trio through a group called Spectrum. Under the name Carpenter, he made his debut with his first album "Ticket to Ride" in 1969, and the following year, his hit singles "They Long to Be" and "We've Only Just Begun" reached number one on the Billboard charts. Since then, Carpenter's Melody Pop has become a record hit, sweeping the top 40 adult contemporary charts in the United States, becoming a leader in soft rock, easy listening, and adult contemporary genres. Carpenter recorded 12 top 10 singles, including two number one songs and five number two songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and 15 number one songs on the adult contemporary chart. It is one of the best-selling artists of all time who has sold more than 90 million albums worldwide. Continuous tour performances throughout the 1970s gradually increased the pressure, and Richard, addicted to Quailud, a type of sleeping pill, took a one-year break in 1979, and Karen suffered from anorexia. It was disbanded on February 4, 1983, when her younger brother Karen Carpenter died of anorexia. At that time, intensive media coverage served as an opportunity to inform the public of the risk of anorexia. Carpenter was criticized for his clean and wholesome conservative 1970s image, but their music has since been re-evaluated and has been a commercial success with critical acclaim.

Carpenters - Yesterday Once More

lyrics

When I was young

I'd listen to the radio

Waitin' for my favorite songs

When they played I'd sing along

It made me smile.

Those were such happy times

And not so long ago

How I wondered where they'd gone

But they're back again

Just like a long lost friend

All the songs I loved so well.

Every Sha-la-la-la

Every Wo-o-wo-o

Still shines

Every shing-a-ling-a-ling

That they're startin' to sing's

So fine.

When they get to the part

Where he's breakin' her heart

It can really make me cry

Just like before

It's yesterday once more.

Lookin' back on how it was

In years gone by

And the good times that I had

Makes today seem rather sad

So much has changed.

It was songs of love that

I would sing to then

And I'd memorize each word

Those old melodies

Still sound so good to me

As they melt the years away.

Every Sha-la-la-la

Every Wo-o-wo-o

Still shines

Every shing-a-ling-a-ling

That they're startin' to sing's

So fine.

All my best memories

Come back clearly to me

Some can even make me cry.

Just like before

It's yesterday once more.
